A Spaceman's Meditation

Last night, on the launchpad while waiting
for a window, a hole in the sky:
What will become of the Spacemen?
if ever that time comes to die?

Will Slartibartfast create a new planet?
Will we have to live under a dome?
Can we seek out strange new worlds forever?
Through the stars continue to roam?

Will there be any rockets in heaven?
Any asteroids where we might hide?
Will there be any big bug-eyed monsters to fight?
Any Wookies along for the ride?

Will the spacemen chum with the flatlanders
after splashing down in the big pond?
Will they still have parades for a spaceman
in the unexplored sector beyond?
